THE MOST HORRIBLE REGISTRAR, PAY A FEW DOLLARS MORE TO THE OTHERS!

I have been with netfirms for years. I've got more than 30 domain names with them. They are always busy updating their old school systems. Finally they got something new. HOWEVER, since I'm a UI designer, I know they either get software guys to do the UI logic, OR their UI person is just high on crack.

Logically one would consolidate all registrations under one email address. But guess what? If you just do a normal registration EVEN WITH THE SAME EMAIL ADDRESS, the system thinks you're a new customer. Now after 30 domain names.. I basically have to manage each one seperately.

Now they force us to have the most complicated passwords on earth. But you cant have the same passwords for multiple domains! so you literally have to remember a dozen complicated passwords (lower case + upper + other character) in order to manage domains. This forces people to keep their passwords written down somewhere, which can easily get misplaced or hacked from the computer - defeating the purpose of Nefirms 'steroid password requirements'. No logic. I bet programmers did this and not UI guys.

Now that I want to cancel auto renew on most domains, basically Netfirms has made it SOOO hard to manage the account and many times I thought hey forget it. Ill just keep it. I bet this is part of their stupid strategy

And even small things.. if you request a new password, it doesnt give a confirmation that the password has been sent. The screen just refreshes and thats it. Where are the UI people?!! Then when buying a new domain you have to enter the phone number EXACTLY how the software wants it -- "+1.4165555555" - yes, if you dont put the plus or put it like a normal human being would (1-416-555-5555), it will reject it. The programmers got lazy here, and the UI guy was probably snoozing or soemthing.

There are just so many things that drive me crazy, so I am going to switch over to another company, most likely godaddy. The only thing that sucks about them is their usernames are like this "3545646456" --- impossible to remember. But other than having to dig into your emails everytime for that, godaddy is pretty good. But they dont have the auto gmail setup. Oh well.

Hope that's helpful amd I hope I have prevented some people from aging too quickly or losing their hair thanks to my Netfirms alert

    All the best

    New platform sucks
    Thu September 08, 2011
    Overall Rating:
    Hosting Plan: Business
Time with Netfirms: 6 months to a year
    Support: Adequate
    Interface: Very difficult and inadequate

I went with netfirms because my professor hosted with them and had nothing but good things to say. He's been in the business long enough to know his stuff.

I was with them for a couple of months before they changed everything around. It was alright before but I've had nothing but issues with it since.

First of all the way they handles the switch between platforms for terrible. I got locked out for at least 3 days. I understand transitions like that are never easy but the problems that started showing up after the transition are unacceptable.

.htaccess f-ed up big time. YOU have to manually delete all the old htaccess files so the new editor would work properly.

    Same thing with protected directories.

Incorrect error messages when you're trying to make new databases.

    Applies auto renew to domains

Not easy to set up and manage ftp directories. That being said, it's also the best improvement made with the switch.

Email is terrible. Inboxes apparently aren't big enough. They say the limit is 3000 messages. One of my clients hasn't received any mail for 2 weeks because of this even though she was nowhere near the limit. ...and they're "fixed" the problem last week but still no new emails.

I'm sure there are other issues as well is areas of the cpanel that I don't use regularly.

Maybe for standard hosting they aren't bad but as a business who has a dozen or so sites to host, a mass of email and ftp accounts, and half a dozen databases to manage, it just doesn't cut it.

I created a domain and bought their hosting plan..however for a week I could not publish my site...after several calls to their cusomter support, long wait times and wrong diagnostics, they deleted my site that took hours and did nothing for me!! I can't buy time back. Brutal customer service, endless emails and no solutions. I'm going elsewhere! Waste of two weeks and I still have no site!!! Bad Bad BADDDD service. 20 plus min wait times to speak to agents each time.

Do yourself a favor and STAY AWAY. Before you get suckered into going with Netfirms (the website makes it look like a good deal), check The Rip-Off Report and do a search for NETFIRMS. This should keep you from making the mistake of hosting with them. EXTREMELY SLOW LOAD TIMES & You cannot generate any traffic without problems... The Wordpress, Joomla and Coppermine installs are old versions that won't run any recent plugin or templates, so it's a headache, and they will just respond with a form letter if you email them. Pay more and get a host you will be happy with, in fact for the same price you can go to any number of better hosts (this website is an excellent resource, so check out ALL the companies and reviews). Try HostMonster or BlueHost, or spring for the more expensive, but SOLID service companies like iPowerWeb.
